Network Operations

An organization’s data network includes the wide area, local area, and virtual private networks, all protected with integrated network security. Intelligent Decisions has found that the key to any highly available and resilient network architecture centers on the concept of segregating network roles at various layers into modular network blocks. This ensures the physical, logical, and device interconnections adhere to the segregation and then interconnecting each network segment via a high-speed, low-overhead network core. This greatly simplifies multiple facets of architecture such as security posture, post-implementation operations and support, and future hardware product evaluation and procurement. Every aspect of new services and solutions must adhere to the established architectural model.

Intelligent Decisions has deployed these hierarchical network concepts through the creation of discrete distribution blocks. This design has used service modules such as the Application Control Engine (ACE) Modules for load balancing, Firewall Service Modules (FWSM) for security protections and Intrusion Detection Modules (IDS) for threat detection and monitoring. These redundant chassis’s deployed in a Core – Distribution – Access hierarchical model give our clients the benefits of:

  • Fault Isolation – A failure in one distribution block does not affect others
  • Scalability – Additional “distribution blocks” can be plugged into the architecture
  • Application of Services – Common services are implemented at the distribution layer (i.e., Load Balancing, FW, IDS, etc.)
  • Redundancy – Redundant chassis, power supplies, uplinks, supervisors
  • Modularity and Core Capacity – For additional capabilities linecards or devices can be added
  • 10 Gigabit Ethernet Uplinks - Bandwidth to support future growth and new initiatives
  • Replacement of end of life and unreliable equipment.
